I was really jealous knowing the fact that Tunde was getting married to a very young graduate like him. Hmm… one couldn’t have noticed that we both went to the same primary and secondary school where I defeated him in several areas of life. I always came top in class and he never for once came close to average. He struggled through school trying to make it. How come he is now getting married? Something is wrong somewhere. Can someone explain to me what is happening, because it is getting me wild.
In recent times, people talk about the bible as a reference to all things, but what can I say? Knowing fully well now that genuine love is scarce in the centralized market called Life, that the marriage of Tunde to Seun will come crashing down. Making mockery of people, especially when it comes to cases pertaining love has now become my area of specialization.
Bright Saturday morning it is. I have to pay a visit to my old time friend who just tied the knot. A lot of people would be fast to say ‘Tunde’, but not really. Seun, yes Seun. The marriage ceremony was between two friends of mine. I arrived the apartment, and at the door, I waited few minutes to hear if there was any quarrel going on inside, so I would use it as my welcome speech to the new bride. I waited over 20 minutes but the house was silent.”Could it be that they travelled?” I rushed to find out. I knocked and was received warmly. I was offered the best treatment in my life, but not to worry, I wouldn’t talk about it. As the man I used to be, I quickly brought up the issue of failed marriages to their attention ‘Oh, you must be brutal’. Many would think towards this direction but it what makes a man a man. ‘Yes, subjective’.
Tunde being the man he claimed to be rushed inside the room. “Is he running away from a fight in his own house?” The thought crossed my mind. Still surprised by his actions, he came out with a bible “Oh, I know the war is serious” I was fast to exclaim “Lets open to the book of Ephesians 3:17” HE SAID AND READ ALOUD.” That Christ may dwell in your heart by faith. ‘That ye, being rooted and grounded in love”. At first, I laughed so loud because I didn’t see the correlation between marriage and what he was reading in the bible. He went further to read the book of 1 John 4:16-19.
“And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love, and he that dwells in love dwells in Him and God in him. Here in is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment. Because as He is, so are we in the world. There is no fear in Love, but perfect love cast out fear, because fear has torment. He that feareth is not made perfect In Love. We love Him because He first loved us.”
Hmm… at this point, I still didn’t understand what was been said. I was confused and needed total reconfiguration of my mental system. He explained, letting me know that for God’s great love upon man, He gave his only son who Himself is Love encapsulated. That by that singular act, salvation was brought upon man. So those that also believed in Christ also have this love encapsulated in their lives. I remained speechless for over 50 minutes as I pondered on the word for that great Saturday. I also discovered that this love extends to one another, and not only the fact that someone is your spouse or family. This love extends to neighbors, friends, and even enemies if you have one. Great is his love for us and we must replicate this love on earth. To bring meaning to the understanding of Christ.
Its 2 years and 14 days today and it is another great Saturday. I am sure that as you get this story, I must have taken my vow.
