THE SECRET. Episode 12.
"What business do you have with Mr Jay?" Surprised! I thought that since Mr Jay showed up everything was over between the two families. "I don't want you to have anything to do with anyone from that house" Wait! I couldn't believe what my aunt was saying, she has being the best neighbour to the Jays' and I didn't even think anything will ever come between them. I tried to find out why with the usual way of indirect questions. "Ehn... aunty, if I have a problem with learning how to cook how will I start that will be easy for me?" My plans this time did not work as it was even the worse since I started staying with her. "Don't you know how to cook? What again is left for you to learn to cook, human being ot what?" I was left with no option but to get her market things to the store.
The environment was no longer conducive for me again to operate my normal day to day affairs, I had been tied down under the guise of ill health. My aunt had just finished serving my evening meal. A nice delicacy, one I wasn't expecting at that point in time. The stew was made with lots of fish, not too peppery as I always loved it. I was wondering what the taste of the fried Yam spiced in egg would be like until I had a taste. Life was more complicated that I had thought and it was then I began to be understand that I wasn't a kid anymore.
Several hours passed by and I had the urge to ask my aunt why she had lie to me about what had really caused my state of unconsciousness for over forty-eight hours. She wasn't ready to go over the issue again, so she had to look out for an excuse not to answer the question. "Can we talk about Alice now?" At that moment, I didn't really understand what was really happening. This was my aunt that said she never wanted me to have anything to do with anyone from the Jays' house. I was really amused. I replied yes.
She paused for a moment as if to have a rethink of the whole matter. "If you have the opportunity to ask Alice if she would marry you and she replies yes, What will you do?" I became more surprised my aunt was asking such. I didn't rush to say anything about her question because I felt something was not really right. "I will go ahead and marry her" I waited to hear her speak, since i was expecting her to say something against it. "What ever decision you make I will back you from start but from now you have to stop thinking about Alice because she has travelled to Ondo state to be with her grandmother for now."
That night was the longest for me as the antidote proposed by my aunt to cure this Alice sickness had not worked. I thanked God that she was still alive even as rolled to all corners of the bed. I finally remembered something...
